In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’ve been celebrating how vigorous movement and HIIT-style exercise make us stronger. But one of the most overlooked sources of true strength is what happens after class — during exercise recovery, when our bodies shift into healing mode. Recovery fuels immunity, balances hormones, and allows our cells to defend, repair, and rebuild from the inside out.
Finding strength in balance — where recovery meets power
The science is clear: when we honor recovery, we boost our body’s natural resilience and long-term health. When we skip it, stress builds, inflammation lingers, and the very effort to make ourselves stronger can wear us down.
The science is clear:
Healing and immunity are linked. Recovery lowers inflammation, restores immune cell function, and helps the body detect and destroy damaged or precancerous cells.
Rest balances hormones. When we give ourselves downtime, cortisol (our stress hormone) drops, allowing estrogen and progesterone to rebalance, which is key for breast health.
Muscles and mitochondria regenerate during rest. That’s when our “power plants” repair damage and multiply, fueling energy, metabolism, and longevity.
The irony?
We’ll push ourselves to exhaustion, but hesitate to take a nap, book a massage, or sit in a sauna — because we think self-care is indulgent. In truth, the body sees it as strategy.
When we skip recovery, stress builds. Inflammation lingers. Hormones misfire. Our immune system weakens. The effort to make ourselves stronger starts to wear us down.
Quick Recovery Wins
- Move lightly on off days — a short walk or gentle Mojo groove keeps energy flowing.
- Fuel with intention — add color and protein to every plate. Less processed, more whole foods that are vibrant, alive, and full of nutrients our bodies recognize.
- Sleep like you’re in training — our bodies rebuild as we rest.
- Breathe & reset — two minutes of deep breathing calms stress and supports immunity.
- Stretch and reflect — mobility and gratitude keep cortisol levels even.
Speaking of supporting recovery and immunity…

Mojo meets DTXFY — our wellness partners in recovery and renewal
Mojo’s Wellness Partner: DTXFY
Our friends at DTXFY at Gateway Shopping Center (below Nackord Karate) are dedicated to natural, affordable self-care for our bodies, brains, and souls — and have been a Mojo community collaborator.
Here’s why their treatments fit perfectly with our healing-and-immunity theme:
Dry Sauna — raises body temperature to trigger heat-shock proteins (HSPs) that protect cells, reduce inflammation, and promote mitochondrial regeneration (the energy engines that power every healthy cell).
Infrared Light Therapy — boosts circulation and oxygen flow deep into tissue, stimulating cell repair and immune resilience.
Massage Therapy — improves lymphatic drainage, the body’s natural detox and immune system pathway, while calming our nervous system and easing stress.
Each of these therapies complements what we do in class — helping our bodies recover more quickly, build stronger immunity, and stay balanced throughout every season.

“Detoxify is the fountain of youth for me. I walk in feeling tired and old and walk out feeling refreshed and young.”
Chris Mullen
- Hot showers or steamy baths – raise body temperature and stimulate heat shock proteins (just like the sauna!) to protect and repair cells.
- Finish with a cool rinse – boosts circulation, tightens skin, and energizes recovery.
- Gentle movement or stretching – encourages lymphatic drainage and cellular oxygen flow.
- Deep breathing or meditation reduces cortisol and inflammation, allowing immune cells to function properly.
- Hydrate and nourish – water and mineral-rich foods support cellular detox and hormone balance.
