During a recent Edinburgh University study on fitness motivation, participants performed four sessions, each consisting of 10 six-second cycle sprints. In-between circuits, they were allowed to self-select a resting time. During the fifth recovery period, however, their rest time was unknowingly reduced by 10% – and all participants were able to push just as hard. This proved that most people don’t voluntarily push themselves to the limit of what they are physically able to do. In other words, if you’re serious about losing that muffin top, most of us could use a little pinch!
